The Contingency

The Contingency is a primarily acoustic, mostly covers-based ensemble based in Vancouver BC, Canada.  We have four core members covering guitar, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica and vocals.  As needed, or when we feel like it, bass, drums or electric guitar players will join us. 

We play music inspired by the folk and roots traditions, with blues and bluegrass, country and classic rock bubbling through.   People often ask us what kind of music we play and our reply is "just good music".   

Our slogan "roots rock rhythm and twang" sums it up.

The Contingency was formed from open-mic nights in Vancouver and Port Moody.   Often on slow nights, we would end up on stage at the end of the night and play together for the last hour or so.   After a while... we had to admit we were really a band.

Since then, we have toured Prince Edward Island (the ancestral home of some members), and played many gigs in venues across the Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast areas.  An incomplete list includes The Princeton Pub, The Brighton Pub, Smuggler's Trail Brewery, Persephone Brewing, Roberts Creek Legion, Vancouver Rowing Club, Dogwood Brewing, and many others.
